How It Works
Pet insurance premiums are calculated from several risk factors: breed (inherited health conditions significantly raise premiums for flat-faced breeds, giant breeds, and breeds prone to orthopaedic issues), age (premiums rise steeply after age 8), postcode/region (urban vets charge more), and level of cover. Lifetime cover (the best type) is more expensive than accident-only or 12-month maximum benefit policies. The break-even calculation divides annual premium by the probability of a claim in that year.
