How It Works

This calculator multiplies the food weight in grams by the caloric density (kcal per 100g) to give you exact calories from meals, then adds calories from treats separately. The treat percentage shows you how big a portion of your dog's daily intake comes from extras.

Most dog owners underestimate treat calories by 50%. A single dental chew can contain 70-100 kcal. Factor these in consistently and you will have accurate daily calorie control.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I find kcal per 100g for my food?+
Check the nutritional information panel on the packaging. It may be listed as kcal/kg — divide by 10. Most manufacturers also list this on their websites.
Are treats counted in daily feeding amounts?+
They should be. Treats count toward daily calories just like meals. Reduce meal portions by the equivalent calories if giving regular treats.
What if I give lots of different treats?+
Track the highest-calorie ones — usually the bigger, meat-based treats. Small training treats (1-2 kcal each) have minimal impact unless you're giving dozens daily.
My dog's food has no calorie info — what do I use?+
350-380 kcal per 100g is typical for standard dry kibble. Premium or high-protein foods can be 400-450 kcal/100g. Wet food is typically 70-100 kcal per 100g.
Why do wet and dry food have such different calorie counts?+
Wet food is 75-85% water by weight, which dilutes the caloric density significantly. Dry kibble is typically only 8-12% water, concentrating calories into a smaller weight.
