How It Works

The correct elevated bowl height is calculated from shoulder height. Research suggests the optimal bowl rim height for comfortable eating is approximately 15–20cm below the dog's elbow height, which equates to roughly 10–25% of shoulder height. For dogs with megaoesophagus, a vertical or near-vertical feeding position (Bailey chair) is required — elevated bowls are insufficient.

Notes: The evidence regarding elevated bowls and bloat (GDV) is conflicting. An early study suggested elevated bowls increased GDV risk in large breeds; subsequent research has not consistently supported this finding.
