How It Works
RER (Resting Energy Requirement) = 70 × (body weight in kg)^0.75. This is the calories your dog burns at complete rest — their metabolic floor.
DER (Daily Energy Requirement) = RER × life stage factor. A neutered adult uses a factor of 1.0. A lactating dog uses 3.0. These factors account for reproductive status, growth, and activity level.
The result tells you exactly how many calories your dog needs per day from all food sources combined — including treats, which often account for 10–20% of intake without owners realising.
