Dog Fluoxetine Toxic Dose Calculator
Assess the risk when your dog accidentally ingests fluoxetine (Prozac) — by dose and dog weight.
What Is the Dog Fluoxetine Toxic Dose Calculator?
Assess the risk when your dog accidentally ingests fluoxetine (Prozac) — by dose and dog weight.
Fluoxetine (Prozac, Reconcile) is prescribed for dogs with anxiety, compulsive behaviours, and aggression. At prescribed doses it is safe, but overdose causes serotonin syndrome — a potentially life-threatening condition. Assess the overdose risk below.
Every result is based on published veterinary research and breed-size-specific growth data — not generic averages. This tool is completely free, works instantly in your browser, and requires no account or sign-up.
How to Use This Calculator

How It Works
Fluoxetine inhibits the reuptake of serotonin at synaptic clefts, increasing serotonin activity. At therapeutic doses this produces behavioural benefits over weeks. In overdose, acute excessive serotonin stimulation of 5-HT1A and 5-HT2A receptors causes the triad of serotonin syndrome: neuromuscular hyperactivity (tremors, clonus), autonomic instability (hyperthermia, tachycardia), and altered mental status (agitation, confusion).
The toxic threshold is approximately 8mg/kg for mild signs, with severe serotonin syndrome reported above 25mg/kg. A standard 20mg human capsule represents 20mg/kg for a 1kg dog and 2mg/kg for a 10kg dog.
