What Is the Dog Litter Planning Calculator?
Estimate litter size, predict whelping date, calculate COI, and plan all aspects of an upcoming litter from breeding to puppy placement.
Planning a litter involves far more than selecting a sire and dam. This comprehensive litter planning calculator covers expected litter size by breed and dam age, whelping date prediction, puppy weight at birth, COI estimation, cost and income projection, and a preparation timeline — everything a responsible breeder needs in one place.
Every result is based on published veterinary research and breed-size-specific growth data — not generic averages. This tool is completely free, works instantly in your browser, and requires no account or sign-up.

How It Works
Litter size varies significantly by breed, dam age, and litter number. Average litter sizes range from 1–2 for toy breeds to 8–12+ for giant breeds. Peak fertility is between the second and fifth litter. The first litter and litters after age 6 tend to be smaller. Whelping date is calculated as 63 days from ovulation (or 58–68 days from mating). Puppy birth weight is approximately 1% of expected adult weight for each puppy.
