What Is the Dog Nutrition Calculator?
Check if your dog's food meets AAFCO minimum nutritional standards for their life stage.
Not all dog foods meet the minimum nutritional standards set by AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials). This tool checks your food's protein content against the appropriate minimums for your dog's life stage.
Every result is based on published veterinary research and breed-size-specific growth data — not generic averages. This tool is completely free, works instantly in your browser, and requires no account or sign-up.

How It Works
AAFCO sets minimum nutrient profiles for dog foods — the floor below which a diet is considered nutritionally inadequate. For adult dogs, the minimum protein is 18% on a dry matter (DM) basis. For puppies and pregnant/lactating dogs, it's 22%.
This calculator checks your food's protein percentage against these minimums and tells you whether the food meets requirements. A food that barely meets minimums is not necessarily optimal — most nutritionists recommend 25-30% protein for adult dogs.
