Dog TDEE / BMR Calculator
Calculate your dog's Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) — the foundation of all canine dietary planning.
What Is the Dog TDEE / BMR Calculator?
Calculate your dog's Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) and Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) — the foundation of all canine dietary planning.
TDEE (Total Daily Energy Expenditure) is the total number of calories your dog burns each day — their BMR plus all activity, thermoregulation, and the thermic effect of food. Getting this number right is the foundation of weight management, weight loss, weight gain, and performance nutrition for dogs.
Every result is based on published veterinary research and breed-size-specific growth data — not generic averages. This tool is completely free, works instantly in your browser, and requires no account or sign-up.

How It Works
Canine BMR (equivalent to RER — Resting Energy Requirement) is calculated using the formula: RER = 70 × (body weight in kg)^0.75. This formula, endorsed by WSAVA and used in all major veterinary nutrition curricula, accounts for the allometric relationship between body size and metabolic rate. TDEE is then calculated by multiplying RER by a life stage and activity factor (DER factor) ranging from 1.0 for weight loss in neutered adults to 3.0 for peak lactation.
