What Is the Dog Food Allergy Calculator?
Identify potential food allergens in your dog's diet and plan an elimination diet based on their symptom history and current ingredients.
Food allergies and food intolerances affect an estimated 10–15% of dogs with skin or gastrointestinal problems. The only definitive way to diagnose a food allergy is an elimination diet trial — feeding a novel protein and carbohydrate source your dog has never eaten before for a minimum of 8–12 weeks. This calculator helps you identify likely allergens, common ingredients to avoid, and suitable novel proteins for an elimination trial.
Every result is based on published veterinary research and breed-size-specific growth data — not generic averages. This tool is completely free, works instantly in your browser, and requires no account or sign-up.

How It Works
Food allergy in dogs is a Type I or Type IV hypersensitivity reaction to a dietary protein. The most common allergens in dogs, in order of frequency, are: beef, dairy, chicken, wheat, egg, lamb, soy, pork, rabbit, and fish. Diagnosing a food allergy requires a strict elimination diet with a hydrolysed protein or novel protein the dog has not previously been exposed to — for a minimum of 8–12 weeks.
Blood and skin prick allergy tests for food allergies in dogs are not reliable and are not recommended by dermatology specialists. The elimination diet trial is the gold standard.
