What Is the Dog Heart Rate Calculator?
Calculate normal heart rate ranges for dogs by age and size — and assess whether your dog's recorded heart rate is within normal limits.
Heart rate (HR) in dogs varies significantly by age, size, and physiological state. Knowing the normal range for your patient's specific profile is essential for accurate clinical assessment. This calculator provides normal ranges and flags abnormal findings.
Every result is based on published veterinary research and breed-size-specific growth data — not generic averages. This tool is completely free, works instantly in your browser, and requires no account or sign-up.

How It Works
Normal heart rate in dogs ranges from 60–140bpm for most adult dogs, but varies considerably by size and age. Small breeds typically have faster resting heart rates (100–140bpm) while giant breeds have slower rates (60–80bpm). Puppies have higher heart rates (160–200+bpm in neonates). Sinus arrhythmia — a normal variation in heart rate with respiration — is common in dogs and should not be confused with a pathological arrhythmia.
