How It Works
Maintenance fluid rate in dogs is typically 2-3 ml/kg/hr (approximately 50-60 ml/kg/day). Replacement rates for mild-moderate dehydration are 10 ml/kg/hr. Shock boluses of isotonic crystalloid (0.9% NaCl or Hartmann's) are given at 10-20 ml/kg over 15-30 minutes and reassessed. Drop rate conversion: ml/hr x drops/ml / 60 = drops per minute.
